The Bonnie McBeth Early Learning Scholarship awards $1,500 to an early childhood educator taking classes at the graduate level. The recipient does not have to be a teacher in Plainfield School District 202. Applicants and former recipients may apply annually. The scholarship must be used to help pay for program costs associated with a university or certified early childhood program.
Bonnie McBeth, a 38 year elementary education veteran, became District 202’s first kindergarten teacher in 1951. Always the innovator, she became a reading specialist and was one of the district’s first Reading Recovery teachers. Mrs. McBeth retired in 1994. In 2001, the district named its preschool/early childhood facility in her honor. In 2007, she generously endowed an early learning scholarship designed to help teachers of young children pursue graduate level training. The Bonnie McBeth Early Learning Scholarship honors her memory and celebrates her love of learning.
